TikTok Shop has become the fourth-largest health and beauty ecommerce retailer in the United States, and Korean skincare is the reason. Here is how the channel actually works for a launching brand.
TikTok Shop's beauty and personal care category has generated $2.08 billion in sales, making it the largest category on the platform's ecommerce arm and outperforming women's apparel by more than $500 million. In the second quarter of 2026 alone, US beauty gross merchandise value reached $980 million, an 82 percent increase year over year.

Top US TikTok Shop skincare brands that are Korean
Korean brands dominate that leaderboard. Medicube recorded $62.8 million in Q2 GMV and Dr.Melaxin posted $38.8 million. The top-selling skincare products on the platform include Medicube's PDRN eye patches and collagen sets and Dr.Melaxin collagen sets. When one origin country takes seven of the ten top positions in the largest social commerce market in the world, that is a structural position rather than a passing trend.
Why the channel suits K-beauty specifically
TikTok Shop rewards products that demonstrate visibly and benefit from explanation. K-beauty is built for both. Multi-step routines give creators a narrative structure, ingredient-led formulation gives them something substantive to explain, and visible-result products give them a before and after.
The numbers reflect that fit. Beauty conversion rates on TikTok Shop run roughly 4.2 to 6.8 percent, about twice the platform average, attributed to the visual demonstration advantage of beauty products. Skincare was the top category, growing 123 percent to $844.1 million.
There is also a basket effect worth planning around. In the UK market, average basket value for K-beauty brands on TikTok Shop ran nearly 35 percent higher than the overall skincare average, driven by multi-step routines. Brands that sell regimens rather than single products capture that.
What the channel demands in return
The cost of entry is creative volume. TikTok demands roughly 8 to 12 new creative assets per month against 4 to 6 on Meta, and creative fatigue arrives faster. Brands shipping 8 to 12 net-new creator assets monthly consistently outperform those recycling a few hero videos.
That is an operations problem before it is a creative one. Producing a dozen genuinely new creator assets every month means a standing roster, a repeatable brief, a shipping pipeline, and a rights framework that lets you reuse the content in paid. Most brands underestimate the coordination load and end up recycling, which the algorithm punishes.
| Metric | TikTok | Meta / other paid social |
|---|---|---|
| Median cost per acquisition, DTC beauty | $12.80 | $20 – 40 |
| Cost per click | $0.74 | $1.10 – 2.00 |
| New creative assets required monthly | 8 – 12 | 4 – 6 |
Sequencing it against retail
The most useful thing about TikTok Shop for a Korean brand entering the US is not only the revenue. It is that sales velocity on the platform has become a credible retail pitch. A buyer at a major US retailer reads TikTok Shop performance as evidence of American demand in a way that Korean domestic performance simply does not translate.
We build and run creator content programs at the volume this channel requires.
FAQ
- Do we need a US entity to sell on TikTok Shop?
- You need a US-registered seller account and a domestic fulfilment path. Many Korean brands enter through a US subsidiary or a partner of record rather than shipping cross-border, because delivery speed materially affects conversion and review scores.
- How many creators do we need for a TikTok Shop launch?
- Fewer than most brands assume for paid campaigns and far more than most assume for affiliate and seeding. The leaderboard brands got there on hundreds of creators posting consistently, not on a handful of large partnerships.
- What commission rate should we set for affiliates?
- Commission rates across the platform settle around a 13 percent average, with beauty typically in the 15 to 30 percent range. Setting it below category norm suppresses affiliate uptake regardless of how good the product is.
- Is TikTok Shop worth it if we are already on Amazon?
- They do different jobs. TikTok Shop creates demand through discovery; Amazon captures demand that already exists. Brands running both typically see Amazon search volume rise as TikTok content velocity increases.
